Italy Armaiolo di San Fabiano Red
89+/100 R. Parker. This Armaiolo cuvée is superb. In the mold of Tuscany's super-wines: softness and fruit from the sangiovese allied with the power and the tonicity of the cabernet sauvignon. A wine of a ruby color of good intensity with glints of purple-violet and signs of development at the edge of the glass. The color is rather attractive and velvety in hue. The wine is bright, opaque due to its density and displays moderate concentration.

Italy Azienda Vinicola Saladini Pilastri Rosso Piceno Red
Luscious and fresh: this is the third vintage of this wine we've offered, and it's as enjoyable as ever.... The Azienza Saladini Pilastri has been in existence for 300 years. Before the Second World War the tenant co-owners of the property made their own wine, but gave part of their crop to Count Saladino, who would age the wine in wood casks in his cellars. After the war, the co-owners became salaried employees. In the 1970s a winemaking cellar was built in order to provide a centralized place of production. New techniques and specialized machinery provided a means to boost the amount of wine produced, while a policy of making wine of quality was maintained. The first vintage to be bottled was 1988, since which time Count Saladino has turned his estate into one of the best in Italy. A wine of a fairly dark ruby color with glints of violet and a fade of a more mauve hue. The wine has retained a youthful look, and is bright, shimmering and limpid. It displays moderate concentration. The nose reveals lots of finesse with lovely

Italy Azienda Vinicola Saladini Pilastri Vigna Piediprato Red

A wine of a ruby color of great intensity. It ranges from aubergine to shadings of violet at the edge of the glass. Its color displays no sign of development. The wine is bright, opaque due to its density and has lovely concentration. The tears are thick

Italy Castiglioni Marchesi di Frescobaldi Red
This estate regularly produces some of the best wines of Chianti, notable for their elegance, richness and fine substance. Founded in 1092 by Messer Fresco di Baldo, this veritable dynasty has ruled over Tuscan viticulture for almost 1000 years. Its wine-growing history dates back more than 700 years, but it was in 1855 that the estate's fortunes took a decisive turn. At that A wine of a dark ruby color with shadings of purple-violet and a purple hue at the edge of the glass. The wine is still young and shows no sign of development. It is bright, opaque due to its density, and displays good concentration. The nose is

Italy Chianti di San Fabiano Red
Italy is, in many vintages, the world's largest wine producer, (it actually vies with France each year for the leading position). Although the country is probably better known for its cheap and cheerful white wines, Italy's real strength lies in the quality of its reds. The problem for the consumer lies in decyphering the extremely complicated classification system which does not necessarily denote quality as a 'vino de tavola' can be superior to a DOCG (quality guaranteed) wine. Luckily for you our sommelier has made his own quality based selection which you can quite happily depend upon. The Chianti appellation is awarded **-**** by Hugh Johnson who reckons it produces some of the best wines of Italy.

Italy Frescobaldi Nipozzano riserva Chianti Rufina Red
An enchantingly classic Chianti. The sangiovese varietal is able to express all its fruity character and its slightly wild spirit. Frescobaldi is one of the most famous names in Tuscany and can trace its history back to 1092. Today at the cutting edge of the quality revolution in its region, with joint ventures with the likes of the US legend Mondavi, Frescobaldi is one of the most consistant producers in the area. Nipozzano is produced in the Rufina sub district of Chianti, to the east of Florence amongst classic rolling Tuscan hills. The Riserva mention means that it has been aged for at least 12 months in wood before being released. It is the perfect example of the classicism that is Frescobaldi. A wine of a ruby color of good intensity with glints of violet and a fade that shades toward mauve. The wine has retained its youthful color with just a hint of the onset of development. It is bright, limpid and displays good concentration. The

Italy Gaja Barbaresco Costa Russi Red
This is the third vintage we have included on our wine list, and once again testifies to the high standards of the Saurel family winery. It illustrates the qualitative potential of the Vacqueyras appellation in such striking manner as to put to shame certain wines of nearby Chateauneuf du Pape. A wine of evident power which should repay those with the patience to wait.

Italy Principe Pallavicini La Cavata Red
This estate has also managed to win a place close to our hearts, with its blend of tradition and modernity, complemented by passion and quality. An absolute must. Pallavicini has holdings in most of the vineyards of the Lazio appellation, and continues to uphold Italian viticultural tradition. This family estate produces both wine and olive oil, and the family has managed to introduce a modern element, making a range of wines characteristic of its different terroirs that maintain healthy respect for local tradition. Initially this cuvee was meant to fill the family wine cellar, but it has become one of the fine reds marketed by the estate. It is an assemblage of local varietals and cabernet sauvignon, with yields kept low and the wines aged in barrels for a year, then further in the bottle, before they are marketed. A lovely cherry-red color, concentrated, and with slight glints of violet that indicate a wine at its prime. The nose is powerful and rich with ripe aromas of cooked fruit that testify to a very concentrated crop of wonderfully ripe grapes. The ar
