Winery of the year 2003 (Wine&Spirits). This is a grand, luscious wine, both deep and sappy, ripe in fruit and yet still very young. In short a wine of great contrast that no syrah-lover will be unmoved by. Winery of the year 2003 (Wine&Spirits). La Finca El Portillo, an estate belonging to Salentein, is situated at a relatively high altitude in the upland Uco valley. The vineyard is planted with a number of different varietals ideally suited to the area's prevailing micro-climate and to the particular terroir. The vines are around 30 years in age and produce grapes of very good qualitative potential. The Salentein firm makes use of winemaking experience acquired over the course of the past 200 years. The firms' careful vinification methods and use of small oak casks for aging results in some of the best wines made in South America. A wine of a nicely intense ruby color with glints of purple-violet and a fade that tends toward a mauve hue, indicating the beginning of development.
