To millions, Eddy Arnold's name is practically synonymous with tradition, a spirit that infuses this collection of familiar carols. Mixing the sacred and secular, Eddy envelops listeners in his soothing baritone on such venerable songs as "One Christmas Eve Long Ago" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Even though the backing tracks can tend to be a bit schmaltzy, Eddy's voice usually cuts through, whether it's soaring in faith (as on "O Come All Ye Faithful") or winking in friendliness ("Here Comes Santa Claus"). Christmas Time goes down real smooth, but leaves no aftertaste whatsoever. --David Sprague
