Route 66 Route Professional Western Europe 2004 Home and Lifestyle Applications
As the information revolution spawns ever more software packages, it can be difficult to see the wood for the trees. That is what makes a package such as Route Professional: Western Europe 2004 so pleasing to review and use. It is a route-planning software package which is genuinely different. Offering the traveller coverage of the whole of Western Europe, like other packages of this ilk the software is designed to allow you to drive from London to Hamburg, Munich or Lisbon. There is an interface between the plans of inter-urban roads and street maps, so that you can use each one when you need them. After submitting your proposed journey, you will be given a list of directions, and then a street map of cartographic quality to enable you to find your final destination on arrival in your city. With street plans for most major urban areas in Europe, it is more than likely that this will be the only map you need. What distinguishes the package from its competitors is its add-ons. It provides up-to-date travel information on Great Britain, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy. Furthermore, it also has a multi-lingual interface so that it can be used both throughout Europe and by all Europeans. Though this volume of possibilities comes at the price of being slightly cumbersome--this is a four-CD-package--it is a price worth paying. And while this pan-Europeanism may raise the hackles of Euro-sceptics, it is surely a sign of the times-and of good marketing. With the fine graphics and the sheer range of information, this is a package which will be of great use for both international business travellers and holidaymakers alike. --Toby Green
